Every October is breast cancer awareness Month, an opportunity to spread awareness about a disease that affects nearly 4000 women each year in Sri Lanka. Awareness surrounding breast cancer is incredibly important as early detection, often through screening, can catch the disease when it is most treatable.

This year the message promoted is very clear. Touch, Look, Check (TLC) which gives clear a simple message to encourage women to check their breasts every month, as well as information about the signs and symptoms of breast cancer. Throughout the month many activities and programmes are being carried out to promote this message as well as provide support for patients already diagnosed with breast cancer. Knowing Breast Cancer exists is not enough. Get information and pass it on and do whats possible to support those who are already diagnosed.

Many activities had been planned for Breast Cancer Month which have now been postponed / cancelled due to the current COVID situation. Some have been converted to Virtual events. So this is YOUR time to support a patient by your pledge.

Indira Cancer Trust (registration No - 07/47) was set up in memory of Indira Jayasuriya who passed away in November 2016 from breast cancer at the age of 40 year. She was a mother of two children and her story of courage, bravery and sacrifice as a mother moved the world. Today 4 years later the organization has grown, with over 20 projects and a volunteer force of nearly 500 with work done in a range of projects to support patients and their families with all types of Cancer.

Sri Lanka’s first helpline for cancer is operational as well as support for patients by providing investigation facilities, medication, counseling, hair wigs, breast prosthesis, relaxation therapy, transport support, educational scholarships as well as livelihood and financial support.

We emphasize the fact that Cancer is not the end of their life and provide all support needed for a patient and their family member/s to return to normalcy at the earliest.

The target is to raise Rs.2 million by the 30th of November 2020 to support 120 patients with Hair Wigs and 1000 patients with breast prosthesis.
