Green Circle Clean Up Project at Riverston

Background

We at Green Circle are passionate about protecting the environment. We want to ensure that the environment is at large looked after not just in our own backyards. We are a small environmental organization in Sri Lanka that consists of a group of nature lovers who focus on environmental issues in Sri Lanka.

We promote green initiatives like tree planting programs, community clean up projects, Kadolana projects etc. The recent community clean up project initiated at Sri Pada by us, Green Circle, as shown in the video was a huge success.

Project

Now we are hoping to raise funds for another clean up project which will take place in Riverston, Sri Lanka. We plan to clean Riverston, Pitawalpathana and Thelgamuwa oya areas on the 26th and 27th of September, 2017.

Riverston is located about 30 km from Matale and has become one of the major tourist attractions among locals as well as foreign travellers in the recent years due to numerous attractions in the area. Bathing, Hiking, Birds Watching, Fire Camping, Waterfall Hunting are few to name.

Due to the vast number of tourists visiting Riverston yearly, garbage and human pollution has become a major issue in the area. If you go to Thelgamuwa Oya you can see how garbage has filed up in the surrounding area and how many polythene, plastics, empty water bottles and tons of trash are left behind by the tourists intentionally or unintentionally.

About 20 - 30 will participate in our project. Food and accommodation will be provided. An awareness program will be conducted to the participants on the first day with the help of Forest Department.

We would be very grateful if you could make a contribution to help our project. All the funds generated here will be used to cover the cost of transportation, meals, accommodation and tools & equipment.
