Baby- Health Inclusive Venture for Empowerment (B-HIVE)

Project B-HIVE is a project geared towards developing a Childhood Development Center in an estate in the Badulla District.

Tea is a prominent agriculture export crop in Sri Lanka and the estate workers play an eminent role to supply tea for the local and foreign demand. This project is focused to develop the health standard of the children in the families who work at the estate. The intervention is centred around the creche where the infants are being taken care of when the mothers go to work in the estate.

The main aim of the project is to upgrade the creche in the selected community into a child friendly space and enable the community to live their lives safe, healthy and with dignity. Implementing Infant and Young Child Feeding, psychosocial care practices and hygiene practices, care for women, menstrual hygiene and home based protection and finally Family Income Management will be the primary interventions that will be focused for the selected community.

The project team of B-HIVE consists of three dynamic individuals who are interested and pursuing their dreams in helping communities to achieve a healthy setting in their lifestyles. The project came to life with the vulnerability identified in terms of socially , economically vulnerable and disaster prone areas. The team envisions working around Baby Health care activities and care of caregivers creating a greater impact in the community by including the extended network of those involved in a baby’s health.

Project B-HIVE came to life during the COVID-19 pandemic and would also entail the needs of the community while taking into consideration the challenges faced during the ongoing pandemic.

We hope to have the funding in place by 15th September 2021

The team consist of three dynamic personalities who are volunteering for a common ambition:

1. Anagi Perera, passionate about youth and women empowerment and has experience in livelihood development and operational activities.

2. Tharanga Sachinthani, Experienced in areas of Humanitarian and Development with NGOs in Sri Lanka, passionate on gender, diversity and inclusion.

3. Minoli Malka, Public Health expert and Health Promoter who worked for national and international NGOs promoting health and wellbeing of Sri Lankans over five years.
