“Help DONGA to buy media equipment to create content on sustainable and community based tourism ”

We are community based tour operator in the South by the name DONGA www.dongasrilanka.com and our goal is to establish a regional tourism identity to the Southern region of Sri Lanka by providing guests with authentic Southern Experiences. We do pottery classes , cookery classes , rainforest treks , guided walking tours , fishing and water sports , cane and lace weaving experiences , to name a few.

The startup began with four friends including myself who wanted to see the benefits of tourism flowing directly into the hands of local artisans and tourism players. So far we have raised over 300 000 LKR through our tours ever since our beginning in September 2022. We had zero capital when we began all of this!

We have realized that good content can attract good clients , in numbers. We currently do our multimedia using rather basic devices. Thus we thought of improving our content quality through a few advanced devices. They are :

1) Google Pixel 7 Pro 2) Hero Go Pro 12 3) Dji Mini Drone

If we can have these devices, we can get better footage which will be converted into content for Instagram, Facebook, TIKTOK and YouTube. This will have an immediate impact on our visibility on the internet, thus securing more bookings.

We are confident that a sum of 560 000 LKR would suffice to buy the expected media gadgets. We intend to go for ‘brand-new’ gear as this would run as a long term project. In terms of sourcing and purchasing, we have decided to go with the best mobile and media accessory stores in the island such as camera.lk and Mobile Asia. If in case they go out of stock locally, we intend to import them from overseas.

Born and bred in the serene South of Sri Lanka, we are four friends who have been travelling to every nook and corner of this beautiful region for almost two decades. Through these countless journeys, we have discovered a plethora of immersive travel experiences which unveil the unique geographical, , ecological , cultural and gastronomical identity of the South. Furthermore, we are also on a journey to bring the benefits of sustainable tourism to its true players ; the artisans , farmers , fishermen , tuktuk drivers and the list goes on. Donga aka Santol or Cotton Fruit is only found in the Southern Region of Sri Lanka. It is sweet and sour in taste, a fine metaphor for the paradox of life.
