We at the SLCS seek to raise funds to sustain and maintain the BMCH which is situated next to the Apeksha National Cancer Hospital Maharagama. The funds will be used for urgently needed repairs to the Home (estimate included) and to meet the cost of meals for patients. We hope to raise Rs. 2.8 Million in a period of 3 months with your kind assistance.

Life in hospital isn’t easy, especially when you have cancer. Suddenly you find yourself fighting a life threatening disease. In a strange and lonely place full of unfamiliar sights and sounds. It can be really scary. The Sri Lanka Cancer Society is there to help them through this journey, to fight cancer and win!

The Sri Lanka Cancer Society , established in 1948, is the pre-eminent voluntary, non government and non profit making organization, supplementing the work of the National Cancer Program. As an approved Charity incorporated pursuant to the Sri Lanka Cancer Society (Incorporation) Act No. 10 of 1997, the SLCS is a member of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) Geneva, and also of Sri Lanka’s Non Communicable Disease Alliance (NCD).

The BMCH can accommodate up to a total of 80 patients both male and female. The patients at the BMCH are cared for by fully trained staff, providing 24 hours service which includes Attendants accompanying patients to their Clinics at the Apeksha Hospital. Accommodation, all meals and services are provided free of charge to each patient.

The BMCH is haven from the outside world for those fighting cancer. The expenses at the BMCH have been covered through voluntary funding. Expectedly the Home’s operating costs have spiraled over time, which has been further exacerbated by the upkeep of the deteriorated structural condition of the BMCH. Despite the many challenges we did not turn away a single patient. Now our traditional sources of funds from individuals and the corporate sector have reduced significantly due to the current economic crisis and the BMCH is in jeopardy of further deterioration unless urgent repairs are undertaken. Furthermore, with the escalation of food costs the meal costs have risen to unprecedented levels.

As such we need urgent funding. We hope that with this fundraising initiative we can carry out some urgent repairs at the BMCH and meet the cost of meals for two months.
